what even is a blinkie?
for the uninitiated: a blinkie is a tiny 88x31 (or so) animated gif, usually with a scrolling or flashing background and a bit of text or a picture on top, that people collected and displayed on their personal pages like little merit badges. they said "i like this band," "i survived this era," "i believe in this thing" - all in a few kilobytes of looping pixels.
i've been collecting them since i first discovered the old web, and this page is where i display my favorites, all mashed together into one glorious, slightly chaotic collage. every blinkie here means something to me - think of it as a mood board for my soul, but 1998-coded.

a note on blinkie etiquette
most blinkies were made to be shared freely, but it's still good manners to credit the maker if you know who they are, and to save images to your own server/host rather than hotlinking. if any of these are yours and you'd like credit added (or removed), just drop a line in my guestbook!
